Description

The Plover 7x30 is a compact roof-prism binocular with 30 mm objectives and 7x magnification. The combination gives an exit pupil of about 4.3 mm, which suits a moderately dark-adapted eye and keeps star images bright under suburban and rural skies. The apparent field of 52 degrees gives a true field of 7.4 degrees, enough to frame the Pleiades, the Hyades, and the Double Cluster in Perseus in a single view.

At 620 g, the Plover 7x30 is light enough to hold by hand for short sessions. For longer sessions, brace your elbows against a wall, a fence post, or a car roof, or lie back in a reclining chair. Sweep along the Milky Way through Cygnus, Lyra, and Scorpius, where the wide field shows rich star fields without frequent re-aiming. The 2.5 m close focus lets you examine the Moon and nearby terrestrial objects at short range, and the central focus wheel moves the image in small steps.

Each barrel contains BaK-4 roof prisms, and the objective and eyepiece lenses are coated to reduce reflection. The 16 mm eye relief allows observers who wear glasses to see most of the field, although the full field may require the eyecups to be rolled out. The right-eye diopter adjusts for differences between the two eyes. The binocular is not sealed, so keep the caps fitted when you store it and avoid exposing it to dust, rain, or sudden temperature changes that can fog the optics.

For a first session, start with the Moon a few days after new, then move to the Pleiades and the Double Cluster. Note which stars you can resolve in each cluster, then return on a darker night to compare the same targets. Keep a log of observations to track which objects your eyes and this model show most clearly.

About this configuration

All configurations of the Corvane Plover 7x30 binoculars share the same magnification and objective size; the options below change the package and finish. This package adds a photo tripod and an adapter, so you can hold the binoculars steady without further purchases. A tripod works well for objects at low and medium altitude, though viewing near the zenith becomes awkward on one. The multi-coated version suits casual scanning of the night sky as well as daytime nature viewing.

The olive armor has the same grip pattern and thickness as the other colors in the Plover line. This is the 2025 edition, which added a firmer diopter lock so the setting holds when you pass the binoculars around. The magnification, field, and exit pupil figures in the specifications table apply to every configuration of the Plover line.
