Description
The Plover 7x35 is a compact roof-prism binocular with 35 mm objectives and 7x magnification. The pairing gives an exit pupil of about 5 mm, which matches the dark-adapted pupil of many adult observers and keeps the view bright under suburban skies. At a 7.0-degree true field, the apparent field is about 49 degrees. Open clusters such as the Pleiades, the Beehive Cluster in Cancer, and the Double Cluster in Perseus fit within a single view, and the Milky Way across Cygnus and Sagittarius shows as a dense band of stars.
At 620 g, the Plover 7x35 is light enough for short sessions held by hand. Its low magnification reduces hand shake, so the field stays steady during longer observing. For extended sessions, rest your elbows on a wall, a car roof, or the arm of a reclining chair. Focus is adjusted with a central wheel, and the right eyepiece has a diopter ring to correct for differences between your eyes. The 16 mm eye relief lets you keep your glasses on and still see most of the field.
The BaK-4 roof prisms are coated on the main optical surfaces, which reduces light loss at each reflection. The body is not sealed, so keep it out of direct rain and wipe the lenses with the supplied cloth after damp or dusty sessions. The 2.5 m close focus allows sharp focus on nearby objects, which helps when you check focus before a session.
Start with the Moon a few days after new, then scan along the Milky Way from Cygnus toward Cassiopeia. Note which clusters you can see with the naked eye and which appear only through the binoculars, and return to them on a darker night to compare.
About this configuration
This listing covers one configuration of the Corvane Plover 7x35 binoculars, defined by its package, optical coatings, armor color, and edition year. This package adds a photo tripod and an adapter, so you can hold the binoculars steady without further purchases. A tripod works well for objects at low and medium altitude, though viewing near the zenith becomes awkward on one. With fully multi-coated optics, bright stars show less ghosting and the background sky looks darker.
Slate gray armor uses a slightly harder rubber compound that resists scuffs from tripod clamps and cases. This is the 2025 edition, which added a firmer diopter lock so the setting holds when you pass the binoculars around. Before you add a mount or adapter later, check the compatibility notes for the thread and fitting that this binocular uses.
