Description
The Sedge 10x70 is a Porro-prism binocular with 70 mm objectives and 10x magnification. The combination gives an exit pupil of 7 mm, which suits a fully dark-adapted eye under dark skies and shows faint open clusters and the brighter regions of the Milky Way. The 6.0-degree true field gives an apparent field of 60 degrees, which balances magnification with a view that remains easy to scan.
At 10x, the view is steady enough for hand-held observing when you brace your elbows against your chest or a fence post. Targets such as the Double Cluster in Perseus, the Beehive Cluster in Cancer, and the Andromeda Galaxy show more detail than in 7x or 8x models, and the Orion Nebula appears as a soft patch of haze. For longer sessions, mount the binoculars on a parallelogram mount or a tripod adapter to reduce fatigue.
The BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated lenses limit light loss and keep the image sharp toward the edges of the field. The 16 mm eye relief lets observers who wear glasses see most of the field, though the full 60-degree view may need glasses removed or the rubber eyecups extended. The central focus wheel and right-eye diopter adjust independently. The optics are not sealed, so keep the binoculars out of damp air, and replace the caps after each session.
At 1.85 kg, the Sedge 10x70 is heavy for extended hand-held use. Observers whose maximum pupil is 5 mm or less use only part of the 7 mm exit pupil, so a smaller objective may suit their eyes better. For a first session, start with the Pleiades, then sweep slowly along the Milky Way from Cygnus toward Cassiopeia and note which clusters you can resolve.
About this configuration
This listing covers one configuration of the Corvane Sedge 10x70 binoculars, defined by its package, optical coatings, armor color, and edition year. The parallelogram mount keeps the binoculars at eye level while you move them across the sky in smooth arcs. A parallelogram mount lets observers of different heights share the same view without aiming the binoculars again. The ED version adds low-dispersion glass and full multi-coating for sharper star images toward the edge of the field.
Black rubber armor protects the body from knocks and gives a firm grip when your hands are cold. The 2026 edition carries the optics over unchanged and updates small parts such as the caps and the case. The magnification, field, and exit pupil figures in the specifications table apply to every configuration of the Sedge line.
