Description

The Corbel 14 mm is a seven-element wide-field eyepiece with an 82-degree apparent field and a 1.25 in barrel. Its 21.0 mm field stop sets a true field of about 0.95 degrees in a 1,200 mm telescope, where the eyepiece gives 86x. That field is enough to frame the pair M81 and M82 together with room to spare, and the wide apparent field keeps the edges of the view comfortable. It suits observers who want moderate power with a wider view than a standard Plössl offers.

A 14 mm eyepiece gives medium power in most telescopes: 50x in a 700 mm refractor, 86x in a 1,200 mm Dobsonian, and 145x in a 2,032 mm Schmidt-Cassegrain. At these powers the wide apparent field keeps star fields open, so you can sweep the Milky Way without the view feeling cramped. The same magnification works well for splitting close double stars and for resolving the brighter open clusters, such as the two clusters in Perseus.

The design uses multi-coated lens surfaces and blackened edges to limit internal reflections and keep image contrast high. In telescopes slower than about f/6, the stars remain sharp to the edge of the field. In faster Newtonians, some edge softness may appear, and the field is most even with the target near the center.

With 15 mm of eye relief, the eyepiece suits most observers, including many who wear glasses, although observers with deep-set eyes may need to press closer to the eyepiece. The fold-down rubber eyecup blocks stray light when folded up and gives room for glasses when folded down. The 1.25 in barrel accepts standard filters and fits any 1.25 in focuser, diagonal, or Barlow lens.

About this configuration

All configurations of the Quillon Corbel 14 mm wide-field eyepiece share the same optical design; the options change the eyecup, the case, and the finish. This configuration comes without a case, which suits observers who keep their eyepieces in a shared foam box. No case is included, so the eyepiece ships in a simple box with its two dust caps fitted. With a twist-up eyecup, you can raise or lower the cup in steps to match your eye relief needs.

Black anodizing is the standard finish of the Corbel line and matches most focusers. This is the 2026 edition, the most recent version of the Corbel line in the catalog. To find the magnification, divide the focal length of your telescope by the eyepiece focal length in the specifications.
