Description

The Vista 15 mm is a six-element eyepiece with a 60-degree apparent field, 20 mm of eye relief, and a 1.25 in barrel. It gives medium magnification, the range where most deep-sky objects look their best in a typical amateur telescope.

In a 1,200 mm Dobsonian, the Vista 15 mm gives 80x and a true field of about 0.74 degrees. That frames globular clusters such as M13 with plenty of dark sky around them, shows the shape of the Ring and Dumbbell nebulae, and resolves the brighter open clusters into individual stars. In a 2,032 mm Schmidt-Cassegrain, it gives 135x for planetary use.

The 60-degree field gives a comfortable view without the weight and cost of wider designs. Stars stay sharp to near the edge in telescopes of f/5 and slower, with slight softening at the edge in faster Newtonians. The lenses are fully multi-coated.

The long eye relief makes the Vista 15 mm comfortable for observers with glasses, and the twist-up eyecup adjusts the eye position for observers without them. The barrel takes standard 1.25 in filters, so a nebula filter screws on directly.

A medium-power eyepiece often stays in the focuser for most of a session, because it balances image scale and field. The Vista 15 mm is a good choice for that role, especially when paired with a low-power eyepiece for finding objects and a high-power one for planets.

The rubber grip ring makes the eyepiece easy to handle with gloves on cold nights.

About this configuration

All configurations of the Quillon Vista 15 mm eyepiece share the same optical design; the options change the eyecup, the case, and the finish. The soft pouch keeps dust off the eyepiece and fits in a jacket pocket during a session. A soft pouch protects the lenses from scratches when you carry the eyepiece between the car and the telescope. A fold-down eyecup is simple and has no moving parts that can loosen in cold weather.

Titanium gray shows dust and fingerprints less than black, and it keeps a uniform look over time. The 2026 edition carries the optics over unchanged and updates small parts such as the caps and the markings. To find the magnification, divide the focal length of your telescope by the eyepiece focal length in the specifications.
