Description
The Arc GoTo is a computerized single-arm alt-azimuth mount for telescopes up to 9 kg. It combines the simple setup of an alt-az mount with GoTo pointing and tracking, so you can find faint targets quickly and keep them centered for long views.
The database holds 42,000 objects, including the full Messier, Caldwell, and NGC catalogs and a selection of double and variable stars. You can control the mount from the hand controller or from a phone or tablet over Wi-Fi, using a planetarium app to choose targets on a sky chart.
Alignment takes a few minutes: level the tripod, point the telescope roughly north and level, and center two or three bright stars. Clutches on both axes let you move the telescope by hand without losing alignment, so you can still push it to a nearby target when that is faster.
The rated payload covers 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrains, refractors up to 120 mm, and 150 mm Newtonians. Dual encoders on both axes keep track of the position even after you move the telescope by hand. The mount runs on 12 V DC at up to 2 A; a portable power pack keeps it running through a full night.
Like all alt-az GoTo mounts, the Arc GoTo rotates the field slowly during tracking. That suits visual observing and short exposures of planets and the Moon, but it limits long-exposure deep-sky imaging.
The head weighs 6.8 kg and the single arm keeps long tubes clear of the tripod. For observers who want automated pointing without the setup time of an equatorial mount, the Arc GoTo is a practical choice.
About this configuration
Each configuration of the Tessaro Arc GoTo alt-az mount uses the same mount head; the options change what it stands on and what ships with it. This configuration is the mount head alone, so you supply a tripod or a pier with a matching top plate. Buying the head only makes sense when you already own a sturdy tripod or a permanent pier in the garden. With the power pack, you can set up the mount in a field without running an extension cable to it.
The anodized red finish makes the clamps and knobs easier to find by touch and by red light. The 2025 edition keeps the same payload rating and gearing as the earlier years of the Arc line. Check the saddle type in the specifications against the dovetail bar on your telescope before you choose a configuration.
