Description
The Arc GoTo is a computerized single-arm alt-azimuth mount for telescopes up to 9 kg. It combines the simple setup of an alt-az mount with GoTo pointing and tracking, so you can find faint targets quickly and keep them centered for long views.
The database holds 42,000 objects, including the full Messier, Caldwell, and NGC catalogs and a selection of double and variable stars. You can control the mount from the hand controller or from a phone or tablet over Wi-Fi, using a planetarium app to choose targets on a sky chart.
Alignment takes a few minutes: level the tripod, point the telescope roughly north and level, and center two or three bright stars. Clutches on both axes let you move the telescope by hand without losing alignment, so you can still push it to a nearby target when that is faster.
The rated payload covers 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrains, refractors up to 120 mm, and 150 mm Newtonians. Dual encoders on both axes keep track of the position even after you move the telescope by hand. The mount runs on 12 V DC at up to 2 A; a portable power pack keeps it running through a full night.
Like all alt-az GoTo mounts, the Arc GoTo rotates the field slowly during tracking. That suits visual observing and short exposures of planets and the Moon, but it limits long-exposure deep-sky imaging.
The head weighs 6.8 kg and the single arm keeps long tubes clear of the tripod. For observers who want automated pointing without the setup time of an equatorial mount, the Arc GoTo is a practical choice.
About this configuration
The Tessaro Arc GoTo alt-az mount is sold in several configurations, and the notes below describe what this particular one includes. The steel tripod gives a heavy, stable base that damps vibration quickly after you touch the focuser. A steel tripod adds weight to carry, but it settles fast when the wind picks up during a session. The fitted weather cover keeps dew and dust off the mount if you leave it set up between sessions.
Anodized red parts have the same corrosion resistance as the black finish, in a brighter color. The 2023 edition uses the same gears and bearings as later years, with small differences in the clamps. The payload rating in the specifications applies to the mount head in every configuration of the Arc line.
